PartB: OTHER ASA GROUP REUNIONS

Around ASA  by Roy Gettz 2018 Reunion: Florida ASA Reunion (FASAF). Will be held at the Ramada Gateway in Kissimmee from Sunday, March 11 to checkout on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Rooms are $79 plus a 17% sales tax.
On Monday night there is a welcome reception with complimentary assorted hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and free beer and wine. This would be a reduced reunion with no planned tours; there is plenty to do in the Kissimmee area without them.
We will consider an evening out at one of the supper clubs, and golf if enough interest is shown. Let’s face it, the big thing about these reunions are old friends getting together. To facilitate this, our Hospitality Suite will be open from Sunday afternoon to check out on Thursday morning, and will be well stocked with beverages, to include alcohol, and snacks. We would, as usual, wind up the reunion with a banquet on Wednesday. Reunion fees are expected to be $70 per person. While these reunions are normally held in Florida, they are open to all former ASA’ers. If you are not on their mailing list or have had an address change contact Roy Gettz at asachitoseassn@att.net or 321-259-7039. All who respond will be included on our mailing list.  Arizona ASA Assn: The point of contact for reunion information is the Reunion Coordinator Doug Cook at dougirenecook@q.com, 520-281-2318 home, 520-603-0247 cell. Other Reunions: There are numerous other unit-oriented reunions which can be found listed on the NASAA (National ASA Association) site at http://nasaahome.org. Check them out, they have a great site. If you are not up on the web and have a particular unit you are interested in contact Roy Gettz 321-259-7039

ASA Chitose/Shemya/SINOP Reunion
Per our Secretary, Roy Gettz, this is an article developed by Dennis Mitzner.  Dennis submitted this article on the Bankhead/Igloo type people, some of whom served at Chitose and/or other stations.  T erry Brown and I went through Ft. Devens, SA-430 at NSA, stationed in SINOP Det 4 and then Chitose together. There was Rich Kollen, Ed Cameron (deceased), Owen Mir, Steve Baxter (deceased), (name ?) Sanford, Terry Brown, and myself who traveled to SINOP together. Owen Mir and Sanford were MIA. Almost all of us were 98J's, except Andy Turner who was a maintenance type.
Another person in our group, who I communicate with frequently, is Sgt. Tom Nutgrass. He was my Trick Chief in SINOP. Tom, now 85, lives just outside of Ft. Hood, TX and is a great guy.
In the picture there is Terry Brown, Ed Fickes, Ken Baldwin, Dennis Mitzner, Tom Carroll, Bill Prescott and John Stonska. The seven of us in the picture have been friends for 49 years. We have been getting together, off and on, since 1971 in various parts of the country to include Portland, OR, Denver, CO, Oak Forest and Peoria, IL, Columbus, Kingston and Belpre, OH and Baltimore, MD.
One of the highlights of this past Labor Day weekend was serving Genghis Khan on Sunday night. I hadn't had it in years, a.k.a. Japanese barbeque peculiar to the northern island of Hokkaido, where we all were stationed.
Exercise of the weekend was playing horseshoes. We actually used the heavy metal ones too. And, that's as close as I'll get to heavy metal.
Our next reunion is scheduled over Labor Day weekend 2019; August 30 to September
